Fall has finally arrived, and winter isn’t far behind! The cooler air, the changing leaves, and the smell of pumpkin pie all remind us that this is the season of giving thanks. But gratitude is more than just a once-a-year feeling—it’s a way of living that keeps us close to God.
The Bible tells us, “Give thanks in all circumstances” (1 Thessalonians 5:18). That doesn’t mean everything that happens is easy or good, but it does remind us that God’s love and grace are always with us. Even on the tough days, there’s still something to be thankful for—a friend who checks in, a warm cup of coffee, or a moment of quiet when we need it most.
John Wesley, the founder of our Methodist movement, talked a lot about God’s grace. Gratitude helps us notice that grace. When we take time to say “thank you,” we’re really saying, “God, I see You at work here.”
So this November, let’s make room for gratitude in our everyday lives.
Here are a few simple ways to practice:
- Start your day with thanks. Before your feet hit the floor, name one thing you’re grateful for.
- Reach out. Send a quick text or note to someone who has made a difference in your life.
- Give back. Find one small way to bless someone else this month.
When we live with thankful hearts, it changes how we see everything—and it reminds others that God’s goodness is still all around us.
Wishing you a November filled with warmth, peace, and plenty of gratitude.
With thanksgiving for you,
Pastor Kate
